Rotary Club of Lusaka Celebrates International Women’s Day
The Rotary Club of Lusaka celebrated International Women’s Day by holding a roundtable discussion with eminent Zambian women who took time to discuss the theme ” Invest in Women and Girls to Accelerate Progress”.
The discussant were Minister of Central Province, Hon. Princess Kasune MP, High Court Judge Hon. Bubile Shonga, Financial Inclusion Expert, Beatrice Nkanza, Past District Governor Lucie Kasanga, Disability Inclusion Consultant, Rachel Chomba and the youth representative was Florence Mulenga.
The Rotary Club of Lusaka President Pamela Pio moderated the discussion, and it was an opportunity to share the history of women in Rotary and the achievements they have made. The discussants were also able to highlight some of the achievements and challenges that women face in accessing legal rights, participating in decision making processes, and the importance of financial independence and inclusion for women.
The challenges that women with disabilities face were highlighted by Rachel who has a hearing impairment, and she also took the time to highlight the importance of inclusion and investing in women with disabilities. The discussion also focused on the critical role female youth and girls play and the need to empower them with life skills.
The evening was also well attended by the male Rotarians who continue to be a valuable resource and supporters of gender equality and equity.
